Music Creation and AI
Between a DJ and a Live Band?
Yes, Ellerem Star is in an odd position.
We can’t always say yes to playing live, as we have no idea where Elle’s voice will be day to day. We play a few instruments, yet not all that we like to incorporate into our songs. This means as a producer, I grab voices and instrument recording from where I can: mainly family and friends either playing or singing in a makeshift recording studio in the walk in robe! Then polish the songs through several music programs. And where it is lacking, I incorporate some Ai.
The music industry has changed so much. Ai does not provide the same emotion as a real artist can, nor the same insight. Yet, it’s a changing world, and technology does come into play. Yet the human factor will always be the key ingredient.
The freedom of Ellerem Star is that we are not limited to a single genre. That is why we call our music ‘Mix Tape’ compilations. Each album will have both male and female voices, and several styles. Even if we declare it a country album, it may have classic, rock or metal country songs included.
Our first album, How We Explore, included left over lyrics from as early as 2007. Through that period, we worked with punk bands, jazz artists and rock singers. There is even a reggae song on it. In the last year we decided to move forward to produce all of our own music. Bands have egos and often implode due to inhouse fighting. In having control, and the ability to work with an array of musicians, we do not have that issue. Elle and I can write what we want, then create it.
Some albums have several versions of a single song as we record them in multiple genres and just loved both renditions!
Each day we write. Some lyrics will be good and some will be stored, in the hopes of improvment or dissecting parts of it for other songs. Hence why we just don’t work on one album at a time. For words to flow freely, and be heartfelt, they cannot be constricted by genre or purpose. At any time we have a handful of songs waiting to go in each genre or album.
I’m rather partial to country music myself as I believe it has so much to tell. Each song feels like a story.
